You probably should consider a generator. We have two, one very small, and one bigger one that we can run the well pump from. But you also need to crank them up periodically, to make sure they're working, to see if you need new spark plugs etc... the voice of past mistakes speaking here...NOTHING is worse than having a huge power outage in a huge ice storm, and owning a generator that won't start up...
