When we first moved out here almost nine years ago, I was shocked at the number of times the power would go out. We never experienced this in the city. However, we've managed all this time without a generator. Believe me, when the power goes out and it's -20...the power company moves heaven and earth to get the power back on. If you have tanks of water or an automatic waterer...if the power goes out the water in the tanks is going to freeze anyway....even if you have a generator to pump water from the well. Horses can manage for the few hours that the power might be out without water. It's never been an issue here. By the time the power is back on, the water in the tank is just beginning to freeze over... If it makes you feel better, have a couple of bottled water tanks stored in your basement. AND if there is a warning that the power will be out. Fill your bathtub with water so you can at least flush the toilet during that time. Having said that....Kevin is still trying to scheme a way to buy a generator. It must be a man thing. Wanda
