We have a nearly 1 acre drylot at our place and the dividing cross fence is 5 rail galvanized pipe set in concrete, no gaps at junctions with smooth safe flush tops. It has welded "no climb" wire with welds every 12" to all 4 rails. The bottom rail is buried under ground with the "no climb" welded on in the same manner. All our gates are sturdy custom made 3 rail pipe with a 2 foot gap at the bottom, again "no climb" welded on stopping at bottom rail. My Vet & the main horse housing specialist rec. this to us 14 years ago & we have had no problems so far. Many of the large show horse/breeding barns out here also have cross fencing done this way. Maybe our pipe rail is different from what you are talking about. All the rails are welded with no clamps & it cost a pretty penny. It's worth it though because we have had zero maintenance on it even with the rain/summer heat we get out here. The welds have all held even where it is wrapped around the top pipe..there are no sharp edges anywhere. I have seen many of the large barns out here perimter fence in this manner, but the cost is $$$$$. We have 4 rail pressure treated wood with no climb wrapped over the top, bottom board redwood burried in the ground with no climb wrapped under & attached to the other side. We have to paint evry 2-3 years out here because of weather.
Next place we have, I am thinking of polymer boards with "no climb". What are some of your favorites??? Kaaren
