Well our first foal here was an arab icelandic cross. It was a mistake breeding. The mare (Skyfaxa) was pastured out on a big ranch that was standing a big beautiful black arab stud. Unbeknownst to everyone she was bred. I purchased her a month before she foaled and called the previous owner to let her know. I had called a couple of weeks before asking if there was a possibility if the mare was pregnate. It had come up a few months earlier and the ranch owner had a vet out who tested the mare...he said the way she was not. Well we had a beautiful filly who was solid black who had this amazing beautiful arabian head, who racked gracefully throughout our pasture with her tail straight up in the air. We had 3 people who wanted to purchase the horse on the first day...all the beauty of the arab with all the talents and easy going attitude of the Icelandic. 2 Very old breeds crossed together...Sally still thinks about it from time to time. We named her Makana, which means 'gift' on Hawaiian. She now lives on the island of Maui. I can totally see why that cross is nice....for some they just can not make the leap to a short fuzzy little thing....but with that cross, and arabs are very popular, that cross worked very well. When I am around arabs that are well handeld and get to be ridden, well they are so sweet, generous and willing to do what is asked of them. Sally loves her Quarab, who is 3/4 arab and 1/4 QH.......if he was gaited she would ride him a lot more. Skye Fire Island Eco-Treks-808-443-6085 Fire Island Professional Farrier Service-640-6080
