Hello, I'm a new member to this group.  I am partners with a
beautiful silver dapple Icey mare named Ro.  She may be the only one
registered in North Dakota (at least as of the last stats in the
USIHC mag).  I dismount the way you do, Nancy.  One reason is for
safety, so I don't get a foot caught in a stirrup.  The other reason
is my knees get kind of numb and sore after a long ride (I'm in
the "silver hair" crowd) so I need to kind of slide down Ro's side
and hang on to the saddle when I hit the ground so my knees don't
collapse until I can flex them and get them moving.  Ro stands like a
rock, bless her.  A perfect horse for my golden years!!  Especially
that tolt!!  (P.S. I can't imagine slinging my leg over the neck and
dropping to the ground.  I would collapse in a heap on impact.)
