Unless the latest stats have changed, Michigan is leading the nation as one of the worst state economies right now. A local realtor friend mentioned that just under half of the listings at her office are either short sales or bank-owned (forclosed) properties. HALF! Yikes. . .
Anyway, I am seeing more and more ads like this one, which was posted on the Grand Rapids Craigslist today: 2 free horses (good homes only) 16 yr old arab mare great with kids but has special needs. 20 yr old thoroughbred gelding. Quite a gentleman. They can be separated but MUST go to good homes who can afford them. We don't have enough hay to make it through the winter so these guys need to find permanent homes who will love them. (231) 861-7212 Isn't that sad? We didn't have a good hay year in 2007, so it's a little hard to find right now besides being expensive. I worry what these people will do if no one takes their horses. . . There are lots of pets being given up right now as well I notice. Gawd. . . -- Renee M. in depressed Michigan
