But can't an FS be built to minimize the damage?
Minimize the amount of files crossing the disk boundaries, and make the
files which crossed boundaries with the removed disk or were fully
located on the removed disk simply disappear, gracefully handling the
situation?
(of course I'm probably only dreaming and this is irrelevant to us now
anyway)
