Don't just think. If the message was grub loading failed, or grub
loading stage 2 ... failed or something like that, you definitely have
formatted your linux partition. (Grub stage 2 resides in the linux
partition and not on the MBR). 

And one more suggestion, please don't rely on the windows partition
manager to do things right. You can use a gparted live CD to do that
graphically. You can also find out what you have done with gparted live
CD.
