yeah u can syurely install UBUNTU,it hardly takes 5-6 gb of space.there will
be no problem of xp. keep  it.
I hv got both Xp and ubuntu8.04 installed on my system. both run well.
i switch over from xp to ubuntu or ubuntu to xp , whenevr required by
restyarting the system.
install linux.
