Hi > I am newbie as far as linux is concerned.. I have external HD.. i wanna > install ubuntu (the one which comes in free CD when u register ubuntu site) > on my external HD.. Like Sharad said its recommended to install on hard disk. If you use an external hard disk it is likely to run slower (due to USB being slower than IDE) and besides the continuous read-write operations required when running OS from it can reduce its life. You could refer www.pendrivelinux.com which may give you some pointers. >I dont wanna hurt the windows xp i have,.. is there If you're just trying to do installation for evaluation purposes its suggested to use a virtualisation software like virtualbox before you decide to switch. > any dcoumentation you guys made for this kind of job... See above website. >i have 20GB empty > ntfs partition on my HD.. will it be suffcient for ubuntu?? Yes, it'll be sufficient. Best Regards Gajendra
