Classic indicator that your kernel crashed (kernel panic). Look at the
logs in /var/log to identify what was the reason.

Possibly heating as indicated by Nilesh already. See if your fan is
working. Within /proc/acpi/thermal_zone , you should be able to see
the temperature of the CPU (use cat temperature). A cleaning might be
in order.
