Somehow I am not convinced. If it were a hard-drive problem (it may __also__ be a hard-drive problem in your case), it is weird to have your system booting up again after 1 hour and seems unrelated. A conclusive test for your hdd would be to take it out and test it on a different laptop. Did you check the logs for what went wrong? Were they hard-drive related problems?
