The Boston & Maine had slide detector fences in the Berkshire Mountains
connected to the block signal system. If anything was detected by the wired
fencing material, the signals dropped to their most restrictive indication.
I believe DRGW had the same type of system as well. Trains were then
required to operate at restricted speed prepared to stop short of any debris
or fallen materials on the tracks within these areas.
