Hi folks,

Yesterday, I went over to our fellow LUGer Supratik's home to help him
install RHL 5.2 (he was using Debian 2.0 --> Hamm). His video card is
SiS6215C.....XFree86 3.3.3.1 has support for SiS6215, selecting that I
ended up with the server crashing, mainly due to lack of memory...64k was
detected (actual VRAM on the card is 2 MB)....after tweaking with the
settings in XF86Config I got it to run at a horrible res 320 x 240
:-(....however, I managed to push the card up to 800 x 600 at 256 colors by
selecting SiS6201 chipset and then manually setting the correct VRAM
settings within XF86Config. The Res is fine....but the colors are somewhat
grainy particularly with Windowmaker, and Gimp 1.0.1 is crashing after
loading the extension.fu.... (I suspect that 8 bpp setting is causing the
problem) ...according to postings on Linux-India, the Rev B and C of the
SiS6215 aren't yet supported...is there any way out, apart from the obvious
card swap....any advice except of rolling out my own driver is welcome ;-)
