Ooooh sorry i overlooked that. Mode problems seem to be a standard issue,
16bpp, weighted at 555 looks like the most stable mode. 8pp in any case
is a dicey issue. Colors are given out to apps on a first come first
served basis, unless you use standars options to install private colormaps
for them. Therefore if Netscape is running, say bye bye to 216 colors (as
far as I remember), enable the install_private_colormap option, and you
get a horrid amount of flashing while moving between other X apps.
I would suggest use 16 bit, and make up for the lack of 32 bit by boosting
your resolution.
Just for the record, I've had my bttv tv tuner app refusing to start up in
32bit mode, and working perfectly in 16bit.
