Partha'da,

Despite the DoJ case against MSFT, its opponents stronger than ever, its
server platform being challenged particularly at the low-end server market
by Linux, IIS -- its web-server on NT having gone down to 22% from last
year and Apache has gone up from 53% to 61% (based on an independent survey
report that appears in the Express Computer, 19th July, '99). Still, as the
MSFT market valuation statistics suggests, the sentiments on the Wall
Street seems to stronger than ever in its favour. MSFT is not a sinking
ship by any extent of imagination, at least not yet, but with its opponents
showng signs of growing stronger everyday, it still manages to find more
people to support it.

This had set me wondering..and that was the reason of the post. History has
shown that its not necessarily the best technology that wins in the end, so
ultimately it will be the battle in the marketplace that will decide
whether Linux can become a mainstream OS. The big boys in s/w have started
to bet on Linux or are at least hedging their bets. It will be interesting
to observe which way the institutional investors *and* medium/small
investors' sentiments sway...thats why watching MSFT's movements on the
Wall Street makes sense.
