have you checked up the docs at http://www.xfree86.org/3.3.4/trident1.html for the
level of support for the Trident
Chipset in Xfree 3.3.3 and above? (please check whether you are sitting on
XFree86-3.3.2)
For your mouse detection problem...make sure if gpm is conflicting with X...and
whether the mouse is being pointed to
the correct serial port address.
For the problem with LILO, pls check if the 'prompt' directive is present in
/etc/lilo.conf before the 'timeout=50'
statement.
