We used to do just that -- ie. meet regularly once a month, since our inception
in Jan 1999 till Jan 2000. I used to co-ordinate with Partha-da and every one
else on the list and announce the meetings... but since Jan this year, I have
been under a lot of work related pressure, which kept me from playing a very
active role... the same can be said about few of the more active group members
as well.....
A LUG can only flourish because the members want it to flourish and are willing
to spare the time required for it... ppl have to volunteer to shoulder
responsibilities.... e.g to speak at meeting to share their knowledge with the
rest of the community...
Its not entirely fair to sit back and expect that others will always take the
initiative required, and the rest of us should enjoy the fruit of that ...
everyone who is interested about the LUG *has* to make the effort.... it is
after all a community... a "all-for-one, and one-for-all" kind of thing...
How many people do you find posting on the list about something "cool" done by
them... how do you expect that knowledge gets to be shared in the community...
how do you ensure that new users can be "nurtured"..et al???
We couldn't even decide on a minimum annual subscription from members to create
fund that with allow us to do all that.... for example build up resources for
the community... look for association with the industry and corporates to allow
us to raise sponsor funds to participate in different IT related events, and
thus being able to spread the gospel to the masses...
There were *too many opinions* on these matters, but unfortunately few
decisions....

There are no formalities associated with attending the meetings, in fact, u
don't even need to be on the list to attend it.... Seems you haven't read the
FAQ yet... read it, it has the answers you are looking for.... :)
