S.U.S.E. is my current favourite. Has enough from classic UNIX filesytem layouts to keep me happy. And ofcourse, its rock solid. Doesn't do weird things like RH does.
Be warned, 48 megs of RAM is not a nice thing for X. Shouldn't really try running any of the desktops (GNOME/KDE). A Windowmaker based X setup would be way to go for this.
