To add my two-bits worth: 1. Quite right, what's this particular system going to be used for? I have run Linux with X+Fvwm _happily_ and _productively_ on plainPentium@75 MHZ with 16 MB RAM and 1 GB disk. Of course I used that machine for computational work and didn't do much graphics. 2. My personal experience: I run GNOME+Enlightemnent on a plainPentium MMX@200 MHz with "only" 32 Megs of RAM. I don't find things unduly slow. 3. Slackware used to be my favourite, too. "Used to" is important here, for I think the latest Slackware releases are not upto the mark. IMO, classic RH 6.2 is solid. I don't know about the PCQ version of RH7.x, having failed to install that and having also lost data in the process :-(my disk got wiped clean because I found out _too late_ that "Custom installation" is not really that with this distribution. Fortunately, I could restore most of my stuff from backups). 4. Re. the graphics adapter: since this is an old PC, the Trident is likely to be a TVGA 9xxx. If yes then RH6.2, with whatever version of XFree it has, should work well. That 75 MHz PC of mine has one of these cards. You mean, if I were to get the latest release direct from RedHat, it wouldn't work? - Manas Laha -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the body "unsubscribe ilug-cal" and an empty subject line.
