If you want to learn something useful from Richard, you don't want to
allow him to get sidetracked. He is a very emotional person (as many of
us are), and has many interesting and informative things to say. You are
left with a choice: eithor you hear the emotions, or the information, but
not likely both.

Don't miss out on the important things you can learn from him, as it
would be a huge loss.

There are people who you can debate with and learn from the debate. It
is my personal belief that RMS is not one of them. I spent a few hours in
Montreal just this last summer having a meeting with RMS where he spent
the time trying to convince me to say GNU/Linux and only say the phrase
"Free Software" (never "Open Source"). I tried to talk about other things
which was the point of the meeting, but he never let this happen and
always brought it back to these two language issues.

(Note: I say "Linux" and also say "free/libre and open source software"
when I speak to government representatives and bureaucrats.)

I have government contacts as part of the GOSLING Community
<http://www.goslingcommunity.org> that still talk about his presentation
in Montreal -- in a "we had better never invite him to something where our
superiors are there, or we will never move FLOSS forward in Government".
