If you want to run Java applications, I would suggest that you invest more on the CPU
and RAM.
More than the clock speed of the CPU , it is important to ensure that it has a large
L2 cache (> 256K).
Ensure at least 512M of RAM.

As Arup has suggested, use a lightwt window manager. Also, look at which distro you
are going to use. Breaking news (for me) is that Fedora FC2 is having some JVM related
issues. Not much details right now. Looking into it.

Subject: [ilug-cal] LAPTOP

Hi,
I am planning to buy the new COMPAQ Laptop (Intel Celeron 2.8 Ghz / 128 DDR
/ 30GB / 1.44 FDD / 15.0 TFT / Modem / Lan / Firewire / InfraRed / USB ) in
just Rs 44,000/- (approx) It is really cheap but I have to be sure about its
performance in Linux as well as if I run Java there. Anybody can help me
about its performance? Is it a good buy in terms of money and performance?
Regards,
Sabyasachi Mustafi
