Reinstall coreutils. That someone seems to have replaced "touch"
command (comes as a part of coreutils) from your system.  By the way,
that someone also has got root access to your machine, be careful.

What are the error messages do you get from these multiple failed
installation.  I am using that same hard disk, running happily in my
system.
