this is the much awaited BSNL's broadband .. note the 'upto 8Mbps' option 
..
this is amazing .. trials underway in chennai were for 6.5 Mbps max .. 
BSNL
has tied up with Banyan Vines to give this asynchronous DSL type (?)
There was a trial with Banyan Vines, that was about a 1-2 years back. The 
trial was not successful.

I believe the present ADSL solution is completely provided by UT Starcom and 
Huwaei of China.

connectivity .. the whammy is that its going to be available over the old
copper pair which was till yesteryears being used for ordinary
teleconversations !
Keep your fingers crossed and do not expect wonders, any technology works 
only when the infrastructure is good. In this case the copper cable going to 
respective homes and office is the basic infrastructure which will decide on 
the speed and QoS one will get. We very well know what the lineman does to 
ensure our telephones are noisy and problematic especially when the Festival 
season and Puja times are around.

As for ADSL it is nothing new, DishnetDSL and now TATA Indicom have been 
offering the same for ages from their limited PoPs in India in different 
metro cities.
