Hello
I am new in the Linux world & also heard about this group recently.
My teacher referred me this group for assistance & advancement of my
knowledge about Linux.
I have some problems in loading Linux in my mechine. 1> I have 3 cds of Fedora Core 3.
I don't know about 3CD set of Fedora, and I have 4CD set.
Whenever I enter into the Linux
GUI mode, the monitor behaves strange. It shows some coloured lines
only.. & stops working. No Linux desktop opens... rather sometimes
everything stops during the mounting session of the packages.
I have a 128MB SDRAM,
Please give information about your motherboard chipset and AGP details (if separate AGP used).
If your starting is set to GUI mode, then when the machine starts and GRUB displayed, select the Linux option by using Cursor movement keys. then when the highlighed bar is on Linux option, then press 'E' switch from the keyboard to edit the options. Now move to second line using DownArrow key. again press 'E' switch from the keyboard to edit the line. Now you in "grub>" prompt. At the end of the line give a SPACE and add 3 from keyboard and press <ENTER>. Now you again back to the Linux options in the grub, now press 'b' from keyboard to boot into Linux. Now your Linux will be booted on text mode. login as root. enter "xinit", and you will be presented a bare X window with prompt. You can type any command there untill the mouse pointer is within the small GUI portion. Once the mouse pointer leaves the gui, the screen will be deactivated, so always place mouse pointer within that area. Now start GUI settings (I forgot, the command may be "system- config-display", ok, you enter "system" and press <TAB>key twice and all commands starting with system will be displayed, you can find the right from there) and set your graphics properly. save and reboot the machine, hope this will work.
is this strange thing occurs due to the
memory size? What can I do to solve this problem (other than buying
another RAM).... plz help.
2> I have recently formatted my computer & then tried to make it a
dual-boot one with Windows XP & Fedora Core 3. As I have no Win XP
boot cd.. I need to load Win 98 first & then upgrade it into Win XP.
But then .. when I tried to load the Fedora Core 3 in my mechine .. it
shows some strange bug massages there. In the Disk-druid portion I
find a free space & the active Vfat in the same area. ( such as: from
0 to 9997 there are both a free space & Vfat located!!!!!!). Now how
can I remove this error & load Fedora Core 3 (whice reports some bug
there & stops loading) in my mechine... plz help.
3> I use Ithernet card to connect internet (Net through Cable) & use
24Online Client to connect the web. How can I install it in Linux. May
I connect to the internet without installing this software but through
the LAN connection?.. Please help me to connect the internet through
LAN in the Fedora Core 3 version.
Thanks.
There are linux versions also available, on your local site, go and download it, if unable, mail me offlist, I will send you the file.
