Sayamindu,
Even though it is addressed to Sayamindu in particular, thought that it might make some sense to put in some thoughts.
I would very much like to get involved in making distros for Indic languages ... but have no idea how to get started. I want to take it up and implement it in some kind of business model so that I can quit the current job. Any ideas where I should start looking into?
A phrase used by you struck me *making distros for Indic languages*. Indlinux (www.indlinux.org) is involved in this effort for sometime now. The Rangoli release attempts to present a homogeneous face of Indic L10n. You might like to get in touch with karunakar (at) randomink (dot) org.
A business model around L10n might make more sense if it is woven around a Service Oriented Framework of L10n services. Take a look at www.mahiti.org, Ekgaon or perhaps www.utkarsh.org
And ofcourse, I like both the distro as well as the philosophy of Ubuntu, and the word's meaning itself! I have been using it on my laptop in dual mode now for nearly a month.
Great. So next LUG meet should see you give a talk on My Desktop - Ubuntu : is that correct ?
