IMHO, this activity should be best left to the devices that do this most
efficiently, namely, the heat-sink and the fan. I would suggest, in case
your cpu is running a temperature above normal, to please invest in a
hefty heat-sink, mount it using a THIN layer of silicon grease on the
processor, and mount a good size fan over the heat-sink. For added air
flow, you may try to cut a hole on the side cover, directly opposite the
cpu,  and add another fan (alternately, try the Zeebranics box, which
has a fan mounted on the side).
I do not think any amount of software can effectively keep your cpu
cool, without affecting its working speed.
