Almost there -
Well , any new cpu comes with a patch of stiff goo ***and*** a
plastic film over it that protects it from dust and grease -remove it .
This is ***NOT*** silicone grease but a new material called " Phase change
thermal interface " , basically it melts in operation and fills in the air
gap between the cpu and heatsink - but it is not very efficient in tropical(our)
climate and to add -- degrades over time rather rapidly .
The best policy with a new PROC is to remove the plastic film & the
phase-change material by scraping with a stiff card (like credit card) -additionally
clean with iso-propyl alcohol & clean cloth . Wash your hands ( to eliminate oil ) . Then
apply a thin film of thermal grease - good ones are "radio shack" and "armstrong"
( armstrong was available at chandni mkt ) also you can ask yout trusty HW dealer
for a small pouch of taiwanese grease - these are usually good . The best is
":Arctic Silver" from Thermaltake USA if you can lay your hands on some - it's
costly b'cause it is made of silver instead of zinc . Much more detailed instruction
is available on the net - just look , before you do - modern PROC's can turn to dust
in a few sec's - IF YOU DO THIS WRONG .

Then you need not look for the silicon grease, in fact, for the first time, you need not put any grease. AMD heat-sink will come with a grey patch where the processor will sit. This is the silicon grease patch. Most of the assemblers are not aware of this and dab a thick layer of additional silicon grease (the white one), spoiling the whole heat transfer path.
What has been done in your case ?
