IO-APIC support on uniprocessor. preemptible kernel support ( if u intend to get a kernel for fast desktop support) 4kb stacks rather than 8kb ( it supports more threads ) > I see from your couple of posts that you do run some low > end boxes. Have you got any interesting results by varying those > schedulers. honestly telling u that I haven't noticed any such differences . may be I haven't used any such application which point it out. And yes I use icewm in place of KDE . icewm takes only few seconds to come up. at the same time to get the speed I have to say * buy* to my favourite KDE. I use GTK based application in place of Qt based graphic enriched front-end for getting good response . definitely Sylpheed-claws is *very fast* than KMail, *BUT* the features which are inbuilt in KDE still override that of Sylpheed-claws and obviously that *great look* of KMail !!! again that intelligent file-browser Konqueror which can display PDF, thumbnails of images, text, etc.etc.... using its embedded viewer based on plugins. so u need not open the particular application. I fell Konqueror is much much more than a file-browser. but the million dollars logic is we *don't* upgrade our system in every 6 months/1 year and we *do* upgrade our S/W during this time. KDE follows a tradition to b! ecome more & more resource hungry and slower. so these up-gradation of KDE and Qt makes our recent H/W useless. where icewm and GTK run very well on a POOR PI. I have personally test it on my old PI. >Or any other aggressive patchsets like mm.
