Right, that's what I was thinking too. I expect to use emacs + latex mostly, 
and occasionally gcc/gdb, no compute-intensive stuff. But I'll probably need 
to use OpenOffice now and then, and that's a bit of a killer (even v2.0).

Do you know offhand which of the major brands come with the AMD Turion?

Thankfully, the money will come from official funding, still, does bomb 
mean > 1 lakh? Also, does light usually mean small? I have large hands, 
so something the width of the Compaq wide-screens is comfortable.
