I think opting for an intel wireless card would be a better choice.
Dont go for the broadcom(bcm) as well as the dell 1395 mini wireless
card(please check for out of the box working).

The realtek and sigmatel audio chipsets work well.

Mine is a Dell Inspiron 600m, which is pretty old. It has a 32MB
dedicated ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 graphics card, sigmatel audio
chipset, Fujitsu 80GB HDD, NEC 8x DVD writer.

Everything works well expect the dial-up internet connection. And so I
don't use any restricted drivers except of course the ipw2200
firmware.

My ATI uses a Free Driver (they call open source driver).

For Lenovo 3000 N 200, or be any model the chipset and the hardware
may change. So check for the hardware details. Go for an intel
wireless card, may be 3915 or so. Even for Dell you have choice of
different adaptors(bcm, ipw, wl etc).

And going for a HP or Compaq laptop would be a poor choice. Go for a
Dell or Lenovo which comes with either GNU/Linux or FreeDOS.

Going for Nvidia graphics is also good, well ATI or Nvidia sometimes
you may have to rely on proprietary drivers.

I am using (more)Debian Lenny GNU/Linux, Fedora GNU/Linux currently
and have used Ubuntu GNU/Linux before.
