Hi Mr. Murali, Most of the brands are good and work very well with GNU/Linux. Now-a-days, everything works out of the box in Compaq laptops. We've been installing Ubuntu and other distros in many lately, and they all worked fine, including broadcom based wireless.
Lenovo comes with Intel chipset and Intel wireless and Intel graphics. In HP/Compaq, you will find Intel, NVIDIA chipsets and Broadcom/Intel/Atheros wireless. Configuring Atheros was a little tricky but it worked and now Broadcom and Intel works very well. You can try Lenovo or Compaq which are the most commonly moving brands. Wipro and HCL are the cheapest ones, but you might face problems with graphics and wireless in these. We had a tough time configuring a Wipro and HCL laptops. These come with SiS/VIA Graphics and chipset and also had a USB wireless adapter which ceased to work when we tried boot-in to Ubuntu using " acpi=off" command. We would suggest you to go for Lenovo or Compaq. By the way, what is the budget that you are looking at? cheers -- Joju Joshua Manager, Operations Zyxware Technologies Trivandrum www.zyxware.com Ph: +91-471-243-7711 Mob: +91-989-587-7134 >-------------------------------------------------------------------------------< "Be the change you wish to see in the world" M K Gandhi >-------------------------------------------------------------------------------< --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ "Freedom is the only law".
