Guys, y don't we create an addon cd for ubuntu. the addon cd has to be
designed targeting newbies and users with no internet connection. a
new user installing ubuntu should just load the addon cd and be ready
to go. simple.. the cd should contain the necessary items to introduce
and make a user feel at home in ubuntu. the addon cd is also going to
be distributed at the ubuntu release party. My proposal is that we
should release an addon cd coinciding with each ubuntu release..

Why making an addon cd when we can distribute a customised distro(say
linux mint)?
This is the most usual question. the answer is simple.. because an
addon cd would make a much more impact and bring better results. now
the facts.. Considerable time and money has to be spent in creating a
brand identity which is recognised by users. we should take advantage
of it and build upon it. if we r trying to convert someone.. giving
him the ubuntu cd plus addon cd would be much better than forcing him
to use mint(which is a brand he doesn't recognise). if new users use
the addon cd we distribute then we which all packages he has on his
system. this would make troubleshooting really simple. then there are
many users who got a free ubuntu cd from shipit. those cds will just
be discarded if they can't find a way to install softwares on it. our
addon cd will definitely help here.

What the cd is not..
The addon cd is not intended to supply updates to users with no
internet connection. we would only release the addon cd coinciding
with each ubuntu release. thus we have a 6 months release shedule. i
think this's enough. now for the dive..

My proposal for the contents of the cd is..
* a keryx package containing the softwares which a user will surely
need to install on his computer.. Or which we will force him to
use..:-)

* an apton cd containing all softwares which a user will find useful.
including the sslc prescribed oss softwares here will be a great..

* pdf files of ubuntu manual. i was also planning to include the
malayalam translation of the ubuntu manual. but sadly it is nowhere
near completion..

* the audio book of ubuntu manual if the size limit permits..

* your suggestions..

the contents of keryx package:
gparted, synaptic package manager, adobe-flash, compiz config settings
manager, gstreamer codecs, vlc media player, p7zip, unrar, ntfs-
config, startup manager, deluge, avant window navigator..

the contents of apton cd.. my proposal:
google chrome, smplayer, thunderbird, k3b, wine, xchm, bisigi project
themes, supertux, educational softwares used by sslc syllabus, avast
antivirus, docky, gnome do, tux paint, tux paint stamps, gimp, skype,
pidgin, songbird..

anything else i forgot.. please suuggest the educational software's to
be included and any improvements that could be made..
