Good.Would be really helpful for users with dial-up or no connection at all.

Yes i agree.
Keeping original Ubuntu distro CD and the add-on CD separate is the
simpler way.And simple is better.

I havent used keryx yet. Does it give user a choice to select and install?

Or should all the applications in the keryx package has to be installed?

My point is : The user should be able to choose if doesn't want to
install a package.Having no internet connection doesn't mean he is
unaware what not to  install.
And for those who are unaware clear instructions can be provided.

Shouldn't an mp3 to ogg converter be included?

And again wont user get a choice to select packages?
If there are too many applications installed ,the next time the user
tries to install a small(download-able using dialup) application he is
presented with a HEAVY list of updates(half of which is of
applications installed by default from the add-on CD he doesn't know
the use)

Regarding the implementation, cant a repository CD be created using the
selected packages?Wouldn't this be more integrated with the ubuntu
desktop?
And may be install scripts can be written for essential packages.
