internet is just one of the ways. He could use DVDs of Debian or other distros (this is what I do). Tell him its worth getting the DVDs since its fun with variety of softwares with lots of flexibility. Also tell him it will respect his intelligence. Don't waste time comparing with windows. only promote linux. Finally, only an open mind will understand this. If person's mind is closed things may not be easy or worthwhile anyway.
