  As per one of our lugie's  suggestion I installed Ubuntu in a fairly safe
partition (ie. Free space in your harddisk)  You can estimate that by
following the harddisk cylinders in fdisk. You need to play safe here , else
you can loose your data.

After Ubuntu installation I used testdisk
<http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk>to recover the NTFS partitons and
other linux partitions I had earlier.

Creating new partitions using fdisk prior to installation didnt show up in
partition table for me.You can try that too.
