I dont know, why again and again this thread raised its ugly head.

I believe that more women aren't using Linux because there is a gender
issue relating with technology as a whole. In my experiences males
dominate most computer related areas. Even the customers in the computer
markets are predominantly males. The proportion of females are
increasing but they are still male dominated. When I passed college
there were six female students in a class of fifty. However, there were
more female teachers than there were male. It makes you clear on certain
aspects of the IT industry.

In all my experiences, I haven't encountered any sexism towards females
in areas related to computing. Not even bad jokes. Of course, I may be
not at the right place or wrong place. On this list it may generate
respect and awe maybe a geek dream crush.

Women who are part of the masses that don't really know or care about
alternatives, in that they are similar to any guy who does not work with
technology. These are the many people don't know much about computer
systems. They want to check mail and not really care what they use to do
it. They really don't care much about alternatives.

My 16 year old cousin uses Windows not because it came with the computer
when it was bought the machine came with Linux. She uses windows because
all her friends use windows, because that is what was installed on their
computers. They all use hotmail and MSN to chat and go to the barista
and not cafe coffee day.

However, I used Knoppix to introduce my 8 year old cousin to Linux. She
figured out all the games and stuff in a matter of weeks. She uses it
for everything. She even figured out how to play music via xmms. I was
blown when I visited her the next week. I had to make 5 copies of
knoppix for her friends.

Alas, even today there's little worth thinking and saying that does
not grievously wound the state, the gods, and common decency.
