I think our logic is getting a little bizarre here.  Surge protection is
passive -- you don't turn it on or off, you either have it or you don't.  I
suppose you could say that you lose surge protection when you unplug, too.
There is certainly no unusual danger to unplugging, is there?  How would
turning off the power strip be any different?
