Not much luck yet. First of a short recap off my previous tries to switch . First try : a performa 6300. bad idea. The machine refused too boot up half the time because it was unable to find its hd and when it booted it was unrelible. It died after a few months and gave my windows 98 pc a boot virus. Thank you very much ! Second try : A power book 1400 c 166 mhz . Now your talking. Good book it was yes. But 8.1 was a bit flaky. Hanged on big documents and windows user i am i ignored the book. It still here buried somewhere and will get rarley used. If at all. Third try : Of sorts. Got myself a compact mac. A classic. Nice toy quirky but usable its not. Last try for the moment anyway i am trying to snap up a powerbook 145 or a 6100. A rev A i mac not good but not terrible either. Usb 233 mhz 4 gig hd 64 mb ram and best of all virtual pc 3 finally something i can use. right ? wrong. The imac decided to hang upon boot. I got the desktop and the mouse cursor but that was all the mouse cursor did not move. Yanking out the power cord did away with that. Usualy. Virtual pc refused to work. And my cdrom was behaving odd too. It refused to regonize most of my self burned back up cdroms. And some times it refuses to regonize some off my normal cdroms too . Popping out the cd and trying to mount them again usually helps. But it is odd. The i mac also does it with my orginal mac cdroms. The 3 i have. Anyway after some scrounging on the Dutch ebay i found mac os 8.5 nl. reinstalled the imac. Junked vpc. And the imac is working fine now. Apart from the cd rom wich is still displaying this odd behavior Is the cdrom dying ? Wearing down or what ? Any help would be apreciated . Bluekatt On a windows ME p3 800 mhz box . With the imac breathing down my neck .........might have found a use for it after all. Where can i find AIM compuserve 2000 and a fire wall ? For the mac off course
