The first iMacs (tray-loaders) are known to have defective CD drives. Friend of mine had that too with a 333 Mhz iMac. I bought a Matsushita CDRW and put that in it>>>
figures apart from refusing to mount cd's some times the cdrom works fine assuming i plan to replace the cdrom can i use just any cdrom ? (probaly not ) Also you must be lucky you found an OS CD on the Dutch eBay, because such items are rarely sold here. >>> that was a bit of luck yes and i would need a cd of mac os eventually anyway I also want to say that if you update your OS you also have to update the apps you use, such as Virtual PC. Check http://www.connectix.com and http://www.versiontracker.com. >>> virtual pc was already dead before i reinstalled the imac BTW if you do not use the 1400 powerbook anymore, I am in need for a PowerBook at the moment....>>> sorry i dont plan to sell any of my macs and teh powerbook is just begging for a os 8.5 update Final word, if you really want to try a Mac w/o problems buy a new one.>> best way really yes but as i said before and will say again i am still a heavy windows user i first want to see if i can succesfully switch to the mac or not if not there is not much use in buying a new macintosh If you do buy a secondhand Mac, first do some research, because it is well known at the moment that the first iMacs (Rev.A-D, 233-333 Mhz) have problems.>> it wasnt known by me untill now but i got the bondi blue monster now so i plan to make the most off it and plan to turn it in to a internet machine bluekatt -- The iMac List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
