In OS X, go under FInder under Preferences turn on "Always Show
File Name Extensions". Normally this function somes set OFF from the
factory. It sounds like somehow yours got turned on, perhaps when you did
that upgrade. There are two ways to turn that off. First, go check under
preferences and see if it's turned off or on. If it is turned off (and you
are now wondering why is it doing this) go to the pop-up menu SHOW INFO
when you click on the Appleworks program. In that window there is a Name and
Extension option. You can either set it to hide extensions or show
extensions. If your computer is set to hide all extensions, it could be
that only the Appleworks one is set to show extensions. If so, simply change
the setting in Appleworks to hide extensions if that is what you prefer.
