In June/July this year I upgraded my '99 IMac DVSE to OS9.2.1 and then to IE5.1.5 and OE5.0.5. I also added four email accounts to my Earthlink maiI accounts and upped my RAM to 384.
Next, I screwed things up and lost all of my email and caused a number of other problems due to my lack of knowledge that older versions of OE and IE remain and no longer are trashed automatically. Ignorance in not bliss. The Apple people [I received a settlement CD with OS9.2.1 and 90 days free Apple support in June] were no real help because as far as they were concerned the OS upgrade worked, and the problems with OE and IE were of my doing. I called Earthlink support in July and was eventually connected to an Apple specialist who spent a total of 110 minutes walking me step-by-step through the problems I'd created, and figuring out a way to clear up my mess. I have a dial-up connection and I was using my cell phone to talk with the tech support. After 90 miinutes I had to hang up and do some of the maintenance suggested; 20 minutes later the Earthlink support person called me and we finished clearing the problems and all is well. I am very pleased with Earthlink, and I will continue to pay the US$21.95 per month, and consider it well-spent money for an ISP.
