Luckily for you, the Software Update system preference from Apple will handle all of this for you. Just run it every now and then (or schedule it for automatic weekly updates) and forget it. As a general guide for everyone on the list who is planning to upgrade to Jaguar, I humbly offer my tips collected from now 35 installs (on different machines, obviously!) 1. Update your OS 9 to the latest version. 2. Run Disk Utility and (preferably) Disk Warrior or Norton Utilities (booting from the OS 9 CD, NOT from the hard drive!!) before you run the OS X installer. 3. Actually READ THE INSTRUCTIONS when you run the OS X installer. 4. Allow plenty of time. This can take up to one hour (usually takes about 30 minutes unless you are doing a wipe-and-install). 5. I suggest doing a custom install: *add* the "BSD Subsystem" and *remove* languages and printer drivers you are not going to use. If you are upgrading from 10.1.5, you have the option of doing an "Archive and Install" which is the same as a clean install but preserves your user settings. This works *extremely* well and saves a *lot* of time. 6. Be patient. Don't walk away for too long, though: the machine will need the second CD sooner or later. 7. Once the system is installed, reboot and do the following: run Disk Utility, Repair Permissions, and run DiskWarrior/PlusOptizer or Norton Utilities/SpeedDisk (again from the OS 9-booting CD, NOT the HD!) to tighten up the system. 8.
