I had trouble getting OS 9 to boot on a second partition after I installed OS X Jaguar on the first partition. I too wanted to have each OS on a separate partition. It was really strange... no problems before installing OS X Jaguar. After installing Jaguar, on the second time to startup OS 9 there was no smiley face, no disk access sounds, no chimes, nothing, and the power button didn't work - had to yank the power cord out of the back and boot-up on the OS 9 CD - easiest way I know to change the startup disk.Wish I had set up the parts better b4 install, but I like having OS9 on it's own part, a Jag part, a part just for another OS or backup (now used as swap), and 2 doc/data parts. Don't need all that w/Jag - use 1 for jag, 1 for OS9, and 1 additional. Definatly keep OS9 on it's own. My doc/data parts are unprotected, good if you need to access everything from various logins/OSs.
I must have gone through atleast 10 different approaches/attempts partitioning and initializing and installing. Finally just gave up, didn't want to spend more than one evening setting up this machine, and settled to have two partitions; (1) 7.73 GB with both OS 9 & Jaguar installed, (2) 107.29 GB with everything non-Apple installed and space hogging data -- i.e. itunes, imovies, local email folders, etc.
Just love that 120 GB IBM Deskstar - got it in Akihabara (Tokyo) for 17,000 which is about $139 @ 122=$1. I don't anticipate running out of space soon. Too bad I can't get another HDD in this Rev:D iMac.
