And the non-LocalTalk serial LaserWriters might even be better to use on an
iMac than the ones with LocalTalk.  Since I think there exists USB to serial
converters, but nor USB to LocalTalk converters.

Of course Ethernet is faster than serial or LocalTalk, but Ethernet
LaserWriters are usually more expensive, and if your iMacs Ethernet port is
already in use by a cable modem you'll need to buy a hub or router.
