Our eMac isn't nearly as loud as the high pitched whine, from the hard drive, coming from our slot load iMacDV. The is a bit noisy but it's not an annoying noise like some computers. Ours is backed up against a brick wall and I think that bounces some of the noise back at us. Just wished we had waited and got the combo drive or superdrive.
