I'm not Andre but I have a 500 MHz CD-R iMac, which I've been running 
off an 80 gig AcomData FireWire HD for several months (OS X 10.2.2). 
The internal 20 gig HD is noisy and I just never get around to dragging 
it to a shop for AppleCare to replace the HD.
