I responded to Gerry's message off line because I sent him a screen shot showing what the HD dialog box looked like. It's a different than usual configuration, with that strip for a pull down menu to select the type of dictionary. Gerry also responded off line, that he still didn't understand why I was unable to get any response when I attempted to activate the dialog box. Here's what I sent back to him, and I think it will answer your questions above. Zippy
------------------------------------------------------------------------ No matter what I select on this dialog box, nothing happens, ie: if I make a choice under the Mac HD and open it, nothing happens. If I select a type of dictionary with the pull down menu, again, nothing happens. The dialog box is there, but it's non-functional. I checked for dictionaries in my hard drive...Appleworks-->Essentials-->Dictionaries. Three english dictionary versions were shown, but when I clicked on any of them I got a message telling me that it couldn't be opened because the appication that created it can't be found. So it looks like they're also non-functioning. All of this is persuading me to do a reinstall of Appleworks. Should I trash the current appleworks before reinstalling? I'm thinking there could be some confusion as to which is the old and which is the new. Thanks again for your input.
