Try BBedit -- the lite version is free.
http://www.barebones.com/products/bbedit_lite/lite-download.html

I suggested this because BBedit doesn't have any inhibitions about what
kind of file it's allowed to open -- many other text editors refuse to try.

make a copy of the HTML file to work with.
