Zippy:
Do you use OS X's mail app? Are you receiving a photo that is already 
open in full display in your message? This is how attached photos 
display in my OS X mail app. I've been able copy photos  by  clicking 
and holding the cursor down on the photo and then dragging it to the 
desktop. That makes a copy of the photo that I can then file or resend.
Sorry if I'm not following the course of the troubleshooting here 
correctly and am giving you unhelpful comments.
